Review : "Mission: Impossible – Fallout"

Never have I ever been this awestruck by a movie in my life. Tom Cruise has redefined perfection. Before we go ahead, lets look at the official trailer.

This is probably one of the best trailers we've had in 2018, right up there with Infinity War's trailer. It goes unsaid that I had GREAT expectations from this movie. Following my previous debacle watching Ant-man and The Wasp, I really needed this.

Tom Cruise is 56 years old. Thats not a small number. At 56, this guy manages to perform all stunts himself including a helicopter climbing sequence mid-air, hanging off a cliff, landing bullet punches, jumping off rooftops and what might seem like the best motorcycle chase sequence in the history of cinema. Tom Cruise's sheer dedication towards entertaining his audience is what has made this film so special. There's a brief moment in the film where Ethan looks up to his team has says, "I wont let you down". You wont, Tom; never.

Packing a star spangled cast which includes Henry Cavill (Superman!), Angela Bassett (T'challa's mother from the MCU), Vanessa Kirby (Her royal highness Princess Margaret from Netflix's The Crown) and our very beloved Mission Impossible cast including Benji (Simon Pegg), Luther (Ving Rhames), Ilsa (Rebecca Fergusen) and Julia (Michelle Monaghan); the stage was already set for the sixth installment in the 22 year old fan favorite series.

Ever since Christopher McQuarrie stepped in as directer in Rogue Nation, the series has gained a sense of continuity, something it previously lacked. Having said that, you might want to watch Rogue Nation to be able to understand Fallout's plot completely but it really doesn't matter since you'll probably enjoy it even if you are a first timer.

The plot revolves around Ethan and his team trying to retrieve three Plutonium cores which they lost under spoilery circumstances towards the beginning of the film.  If not recovered, these cores can then be used to incur a nuclear crisis on the planet. Now, this might seem like a very generic plot and something which we have definitely seen before but if you're a long time fan of the franchise, you probably know that what makes Mission: Impossible so cool is how they add plot twists every minute. The same is true about Fallout.  The entire movie is full of edge of the seat scenes and goosebump moments.

Henry Cavill's August Walker is also very integral to the story. Henry's performance particularly impressed me. His portrayal of a pumped up humorless CIA assassin is very convincing. I hope to see him in more action movies outside the DCEU cause he's really fit for these roles. Cavill's performance is really a cherry on top for this awesome action packed blockbuster.

Those who have been reading this blog for quite some time now know how I am a real sucker for good music in films. They add more depth to every scene and make the overall experience fruitful. Having said that, Mission: Impossible - Fallout has one of the best background music scores in all the movies I have seen. The OST made my jaw drop lower than what even Malai Kofta can't. The trailer obviously has awesome music (it was composed by Imagine Dragons) but the film has even better background scores which don't only pump your adrenaline but also make the movie more emotional; which is something I absolutely love. Are you reading this, Marvel Studios?

Another wonderful aspect in this film is its cinematography. Every scene is filmed with the best camera angle possible. Paramount always uses the best cameras in the business so the picture quality and color accuracy is magnificent. The film is set in very iconic locations with pretty much the entire story set in Paris. The climax is set in New Zealand and Norway with significant chunks of scenes in Abu Dhabi. This is a film truly made for IMAX. Rob Hardy's wonderful work has delivered the best motorcycle chase sequence in history set on Arch de Triomphe, Paris. You really need to watch the movie to be able to understand what I'm talking about.

Packing just the right amount and type of humor, the movie is one which suits every viewer's taste and I really don't see why you shouldn't watch it. This is probably my most explicit and direct suggestion ever. Go watch it because you'll definitely regret spending your money on Dhadak.
