Review: "Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran"

John Abraham makes his comeback to the big screen with a bang!

Parmanu narrates the story of the Pokhran Nuclear tests of 1998 that were executed under very delicate circumstances due to the political instability within the nation and foreign pressure. Though the original architect of this program was Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, he isn't a character in the movie. The movie is a partial work of fiction but it is definitely interesting.

One can extensively question its factual and logical integrity but I ,for one, didn't think that inaccuracy of facts and scientific principles was a real issue with this film.
It has a decent cast with John Abraham at its top and a few faces that we have seen before as supporting roles for other Bollywood films but can't really recognize. Diana Penty plays the role of a RAW agent and does it very well. I hope we see her in more stuff now. Boman Irani also plays a short role and delivers with perfection as a White Collar official in the PMO.

John Abraham's performance was very  impressive too; mostly because we saw him in an unusual role. Though he is seen sporting an Army Uniform (Jai Hind!) in the posters, his character, Ashwat Raina, is actually an engineer who is not physically active at all! But, I don't think thats a major problem too.

Overall, the movie is very inspirational. I really felt very proud stepping out of the theater. I love my country and it is the only reason I loved this movie. Because, though it didn't have a really massive opening and a star-spangled cast (Ahem ahem, Race 3), it narrates the story of a very big chapter in our National History. It reminds us that though we are a struggling nation with issues like poverty, unemployment and illiteracy, we have strong and hard-working women and men trying to make stuff better for us and deliver a better nation for our lineage.

The trailer made me expect a movie with a lot of action and intensity, but, Parmanu really is a very positive movie in its totality. Even without blood and death, it manages to tap into our minds (Suck it, Game of Thrones!!).

The reason I've rated it only 3 stars is because of its music score. The music is pretty jumbled up in my accordance. I've always believed that music is a very if not the most important aspect of a movie and though Parmanu doesn't have a disappointing music score, its pretty inconsistent. Its dramatic where it doesn't have to be and too bland where it can be very dramatic. I don't think this will be a real issue to a lot of viewers but to a fanatic like me, it'll be a pretty huge deal.

I'd really recommend students that students watch this movie and understand that our nation needs them to work harder and that there is still hope. This film will surely amplify their love for our nation.
