Bollywood movies that are Genuinely Awesome

Making fun of Bollywood clichés has become a cliché among the young Indian youth. While I can promise you that the best days in the Indian Film Industry are yet to come, here's a glimpse into that seemingly bright future with a list of Indian movies that are genuinely awesome and a must-watch for any English-flaunting brat who thinks making fun of Bollywood is cool.

My Name is Khan

Depicting the tragic story of a Muslim man residing in the US who loses it all after his son is tragically killed by a bunch of high-school bullies for being a Muslim post 9/11 resulting in his wife abandoning him, My Name is Khan is one of Shah Rukh Khan's best performances ever. A fantastic portrayal of a middle aged man suffering from Asperger's Syndrome who sets out on his mission to meet the President of the United States to try and change people's perception about his religion makes this movie one of the best movies Bollywood has ever made. The Words
"My Name is Khan and I'm not a Terrorist"
have become forever engraved in our minds. The story of Rizwan Khan is an inspiration and eye-opener for many viewers.

Tamasha

Ranbir Kapoor's portrayal of a bi-polar individual who meets a young and beautiful woman in the middle of his trip to Corsica, France only to get separated and then getting re-acquainted years later as a completely different man with no purpose or excitement in his corporate life of an Engineer is among the best pieces of acting ever made in the industry. Tamasha tells the story of a story-teller who has a really hard time re-discovering himself after suffering much loss in his life upon being forced to become an Engineer and live a live completed separated from his true self. It is a fantastic piece of art by Imtiaz Ali and a must watch for every young artist in the country.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is many lessons clustered into one film. It is definitely a very entertaining movie and viewers take away different lessons from it.
"Main Udna chahta hu, Daudna chahta hu, Girna bhi chahta hu, bas Rukna nahi chahta"
This dialogue pretty much sums up the ambitions of almost every youngster in the world. But the movie does an excellent job at teaching us that everything comes at a price and we can't accomplish all that we desire. The beauty of life doesn't lie in enjoying everything but in living some things.

3 Idiots

3 idiots is a very unique movie with its on-point humor and dialogues that effectively point out the ironies in our social order and norms. It narrates the story of 3 Engineering Students who face plenty of challenges in the journey of securing their degrees and getting jobs. It is full of humor and teachable moments for anyone who is associated with the field of Education.

Wazir

With an average shooting budget, Wazir never quite received the credit it deserved. The Amitabh Bachan and Farhan Akhtar starer narrates a story of loss and vengeance with pretty good music scores. Its full of suspense and I cant tell you more about it without spoiling it for you.

Dear Zindagi

Dear Zindagi is a very difficult movie to relate to, which is something that works in its favor. Not every one who watches this movie understands what its meant for or more importantly, who it is meant for. But those who understand it to its very core, walk out reformed. Dear Zindagi put an end to Shah Rukh Khan's long affair with poorly scripted movies and helped Bollywood's favorite Actor polish his tarnished reputation.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

Admit it, you had started to wonder why you hadn't found this movie on the list yet. Honestly, this list would never be complete without ZNMD. Though on posters it flaunts being a funky movie about three young guys chilling in Spain, its so much more that that. Its funny, entertaining and maybe a wee bit funky too but what no one expected from this movie, is that it also has the potential to make you cry. Javed Akhtar's beautiful poetic verses voiced by Farhan and Spain's beautiful landscape flaunting beautiful sunsets in slow motion - that can make anyone feel alleviated and open up.

ZNMD is the sort of movie you watch with friends on a lazy summer afternoon to lift yourself up and start living life to the fullest. It is also a perfect example for aspiring movie makers and writers to learn a thing or two from.
