Review: Raazi

Let me start out by explicitly letting you guys know that THIS IS NOT SANIA MIRZA'S BIOPIC.

Raazi's trailer flaunted a glimpse into a seemingly thrilling movie. However, if you went into the theater expecting to watch Alia Bhatt kamakazi spies and ISI agents with martial-arts, chances are you were disappointed, you'll just need to watch Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow for that.

If we ignore the fact that Raazi wasn't a Spy movie despite having promised to be one, every thing else about the movie is pretty decent. It doesn't have a lot of WOW features but it does a good job at promoting what the movie is really meant for. The movie revolves around the notion that
Often, war's greatest Casualties are it's Survivors.
It mainly circles around the emotional breakdowns of an Amateur Spy in the face of Sehmat Khan who is married into a Pakistani family during the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971 and has to  has to pry out members of her own family, one at a time, to send encrypted information across the border without being detected. This would have been a pretty awesome plot for a very cool Action movie but Raazi is very much a Drama and I still haven't been able to figure out whether its something that works in its favor. Don't get me wrong, its not a bad movie, in fact, I really liked it. It's just not exactly the sort of movie that'll make a lot of people go "WOW". It's a silent movie, but it delivers a loud message.

While the merit of Raazi's Script can be debated over and over again without end, there is one aspect of the movie that doesn't need any pondering upon - Alia Bhatt.

When we first saw Alia Bhatt in 2012's Student of the Year no one could have guessed that she'd turn into such a talented Actress and win over the entire nation's heart with her back-to-back show steelers. Over the last two years, Alia has starred in Udta Punjab, Dear Zindagi and Badrinath ki Dulhania (chronologically) and has acted fabulously in each of them. Her performance in Raazi is perhaps her best show till date. Alia Bhatt has shown the industry that she is ready to take up more challenging projects and prepared to pursue a higher form of art.
